From Ugly House Chaos to Cozy: Our Latest Flip of a Hoarder House

Updated: Aug 15

We just wrapped up one of our most challenging—and rewarding—flips to date. This time, we took on a hoarder house that was bursting at the seams with clutter. It was a bit overwhelming at first, but with a clear vision and a lot of elbow grease, we turned this chaotic space into a cozy, welcoming home.

The Initial Ugly House Walkthrough

When we first walked into the property, it was like stepping into another world. Every room was piled high with stuff—old furniture, boxes, newspapers, you name it. The house was in dire need of some TLC, and we knew we had our work cut out for us. But as any good flipper knows, the more challenging the project, the more rewarding the result.

The Clean-Out Process

The first step was tackling the massive clean-out. We brought in a dedicated team to help sort, donate, and dispose of the items. It took several days just to clear the space enough to assess the actual condition of the house. As the clutter started to disappear, we could see the bones of the house—a solid structure and plenty of potential.

Getting to Work

Once the ugly house was cleaned out, we could finally get to work. It was all about updating and refreshing the space. We tore out old carpet and replaced it with Luxury Vinyl plank flooring and gave the walls a fresh coat of paint.

In the kitchen we painted the outdated cabinets, knocked out a wall and converted it into an open floor plan. We also installed an island and new appliances. The bathroom got a complete overhaul as well, with new fixtures, a new tub surround, and a bright, airy feel. For the exterior we opted to not paint the brick but chose to install new shutters and columns that we painted a deep brown Home Depot color called Padre Brown to offset the orange appearance of the brick.

The Final Reveal

After weeks of hard work of this ugly house, the transformation was nothing short of amazing. The once-cluttered and chaotic house was now a clean, modern, and inviting home. The open spaces and natural light made the kitchen feel much larger, and the updated finishes added a touch of elegance. Although we did not spend a lot on this flip due to the comps in the area. It was well worth the time and effort based on the outcome.

Lessons Learned

Flipping a hoarder house taught us a lot about patience and the power of a clear vision. While it was challenging to see past the clutter initially, staying focused on the end goal made all the difference. The final result was worth every bit of effort. If you're ever considering taking on a similar project, remember: with a bit of determination and a solid plan, even the most daunting flips can become dream homes!
